Cradle of Humankind

In 2003 Furneaux Stewart, in collaboration
with South African architects GAPP, won an international design competition to create a unique visitor attraction at the centre of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.

This was opened to great acclaim by Premier Thabo Mbeke in December 2005. The experiential subterranean visitor journey travels back in time through the origins of elemental life on earth, and subsequently, to the discovery of our earliest hominid ancestors and what it means to be human today, and tomorrow.
